This American girl look had me feeling all kinds of feminine, chic, classy and sexy all at once. Boss lady, Dema Badr of Scout Boutique, knows how to pick ’em–good thing the sale rack is currently filllleddddd with the summer dresses of your wildest dreams (I got this one for $30 and it was originally $100+!) It was so cute in fact, my mom said she wanted one–chances that sweet Kath looks cuter in it than me? Very high. We’ll find out.
American Girl (Doll)
“You look like an American girl doll.” That’s what my sister said to me when I came out ready to go. I couldn’t argue with her. I did–I looked like an American girl doll. #nailedit (Maybe combined with a little bit of Kennedy.)
I could have taken this dress a number of directions that wasn’t that of an American girl doll but for some reason, this is what came together in my head. Before I knew it, I was the picture in real life of exactly what came together in my head.
I could have worn my hair down and curly with gladiator sandals and a jean jacket draped over my shoulders for a casual, chic, out-and-about look. I could have worn my hair down and straight with flats and a blazer for a sophisticated look. But for some reason, my instinct was a high curly ponytail and red lipstick, sealed with a bow. I just couldn’t help myself! #backtomyroots
Also these shoes, which were beyond perfect with this dress, I’ve been wearing them nearly every day recently–nude, pointy with an ankle strap, what more could you ask for? (They’re from Forever 21–somehow they are comfortable and surviving my daily wear-and-tear.
This dress, from Scout Boutique in Biltmore Village in Asheville, is like my LWD lace dress dreams come true. The modest yet feminine style of the dress fits perfectly in all of the right places, with subtle details that give it a hypo-conservative vibe–like the neckline and keyhole detail, pleats at the waist and longer lace overlay.
The accidental pavilion setting at the W. Fort Lauderdale Hotel was like heaven for a blogger, especially with this look–making #ootd/blogger dreams come true. But seriously, I feel like I could have had my wedding set up there and it would be delightful–or some kind of party. It’s fitting that when I walked out in this dress, my mom said she could see me wearing a dress like it for my wedding. Non-traditional without even trying and I’m not mad about it.
This look definitely doesn’t reflect my overall style, and while it’s more rare than anything, it is a part of my story and reflects who I am. One day I’ll be in something like this, and the next I’ll be in something like that. I gotta keep myself guessing! All my Asheville people–head into Scout Boutique to shop more dresses like this on sale and add them to your dress queue for what’s left of summer and summers to come! XOXO
