Blogged, while listening to my Christmas playlist on Spotify. Currently playing, as I type this–Last Christmas by Wham!.

Prelude: I hadn’t washed my hair in 5 days when this photo was taken.

Anyways.

Some beauty and self-care products I like mixing up, but some products–I’ve found that good good so I stick with what I like and what I know works (kind of like my emojis). I just got my December How To Be A Redhead box so there’s a chance there will be some additions/modifications to this list as I use new products that suit me, but in the meantime–I’m sharing my favorite must-have beauty and self-care products.

I spend most of my time in the mornings in my bathroom–which I’ve come to love and appreciate as true “me time.” Something about the process of getting ready in the morning for the day–I think it’s an important part of my routine in preparation for each day mentally and physically. Sometimes it feels like it’s the only place I have a routine in the midst of figuring life out every day–shower, skincare routine, routine process for whatever my hair is feeling that day, touch of what makeup I’m feeling (it comes down to mascara or no mascara), brush my teeth, spritz of fragrance–we out. <insert peace hand symbol emoji>

Favorite Beauty and Self-Care Products

From my bathroom drawer to my bathroom counter, these are my current favorite beauty and self-care products. I’ll save my makeup bag (which is as basic and minimal as it gets) and what’s in my shower for another day!

1. Hair Spray

sarajane case photography, beauty, self-care, products, just ferriss, lifestyle blog, asheville blog, asheville bloggerI can’t live without hairspray. This is a product that I’ve found what I like and I’ve stuck with it–for years! I have two favorites: I am a loyal TRESemme shopper — their Aerosol Hairspray is lightweight and reliable for all day good hair day support. For a final finishing touch any time before I head out, I spray L’Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Hair Spray. Other than the fact it’s amazing, it also makes you feel extra glamarous.

2. Skin Serum

I’m all about my skincare routine–I will not go to bed at night and I will not leave the house in the morning before I’ve done my skincare routine. In the last couple of years, skin serum has become a part of that. So far, I’ve enjoyed Estee Lauder’s day serum and night serum and Lancôme, which are an investment–but investing in your skin is so worth it! I’m currently using Glossier, which I can’t get enough of. #Goals: to one day have all things Glossier cover my bathroom counter.

» My Top Pick: Shop Glossier’s Skin Serum Super Pack, I’m obsessed! My favorites are Super Bounce and Super Glow.

Shop Estee Lauder Perfectionist Lifting/Firming Serum (day) and Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II. Shop Lancôme Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Serum.

3. Body Butter

Correction: the BEST smelling and most moisturizing and just delightful body butter. Walgreen’s recently started selling Soap & Glory, a British brand, so the lady gave me a sample at checkout. I haven’t turned back since. Not only is the branding engaging and phenomenal, the products leave you wanting more. After one sample packet, I purchased the Righteous Body Butter™. Then I went back for eye cream, night moisturizer and day moisturizer. And then I went back for face wash that sounded so promising to help unclog pores. Next on my list–serum from their Make Yourself Youthful™ collection.

4. Rose Water Spray

I never really understood the point of things like rose water spray. They just seemed like something you would have on your counter for show or as an accessory. PLOT TWIST. I’m obsessed. Not only is my rose water spray a part of my morning routine–it’s like an any-time-of-the-day-thing when I want to re-focus, feel grateful and enliven my spirit (which is all the time). This is NOT a joke–seriously enliven my spirit. It’s like taking a deep breath times 100 and it brings a tingling sensation to your whole body from just a single spritz on your face. Not only do I enjoy enlivening my spirit; I enjoy enlivening others’ spirit (my friends will attest to that). “Can I enliven your spirit?”

5. Moroccanoil Dry Body Oil

sarajane case photography, beauty self-care products, just ferriss, lifestyle blog, style blogIf you have used Moroccanoil hair products, then you know what the Moroccanoil brand smells like. And if you haven’t used Moroccanoil products, then you need to know what it smells like–and experience the amazingness. It’s like air freshener, only for your skin and hair that you can never spray too much of. It’s luxurious. I’ve always only used hair products but my hairdresser gave me a bottle of the Dry Body Oil to take home one time. I’ve been addicted ever since! It’s exactly what it sounds like–an oil that dries, leaving you not greasy whatsoever, and only moisturized and your skin well taken care of.

6. Texturizing Hair Spray

In my November How To Be A Redhead box, the featured brand was Paul Mitchell and the Neon collection, complete with a sugar cleansing and nourishing system. It included a texturizing sugar spray, which I now spray all the time–sometimes just for fun. Perfect when you need some beachy waves or messy curl action, or just to give your hair  little texture (duh) before styling.

7. Face Wash

I have used a prescription face wash for a couple of years now–it’s changed my life. I had a severe breakout around 23-24 and it was miserable (I think it was due to an extreme change in diet then adding foods/ingredients back into it). But when I started using this prescription face wash, it was seriously like magic. I like to use a cleanser occasionally beforehand to help with dirt and pores, but then I use a topical cleanser with sodium, sulfacetamide and sulfur agents that help with breakouts (seriously help with breakouts). It’s not anything super powerful that’s going to dry you out (sometimes I keep it on for 20 minutes as a face mask!), so ask your doctor if it’s right for you!

» Consider Keratolytic Agent Sodium Sulfacetamide and Sulfur (10% and 5%)

8. Dry Shampoo

sarajane case photography, beauty, self-care, products, just ferriss, lifestyle blog, asheville blog, asheville bloggerYou had to have just been WAITING for this one. If you follow me on Snapchat (or Insta stories I guess), then you know I can’t effing live without dry shampoo. I wash my hair, ummmmmmmmmmmmmm, let’s just say very rarely (I mean 1-2 times a week). Now that dry shampoo exists, I’m wondering how I seriously ever lived without it. My favorite is Bumble and Bumble Thickening Dryspun Finish but if you’re looking for a drug store win like me, then Herbal Essences is your pick–I’ve been buying bottle after bottle for months.

9. Fragrance

Before you head out, spritz this: Turquatic by Mac, Decadence by Marc Jacobs, Miss Dior by DiorHeavenly Mist (I like post shower) and Very Sexy by Victoria’s Secret, Love Story by Chloe, Dot by Marc Jacobs. I like really clean fragrances that aren’t too sweet or florally and have an almost masculine hint to them–but of course still perfectly and contagiously feminine.
